We raise all our puppies with the Puppy Culture program from the moment they're born. All puppies are raised in our home & live as part of the family. We do start potty training and all puppies will go home knowing how to use a doggy door. We strive to make a well rounded Irish Wolfhound but once your puppy goes home, it is up to YOU to continue the training to create a well rounded Irish Wolfhound.
Training starts as soon as your puppy is born and should continue the rest of your Wolfhound's life. Wolfhounds are goobers but pick up training very quickly. Consistency is key. From the time your bring your Wolfie home, be consistent otherwise you will have a huge dog with zero manors that you can't control. We can guide you through puppy basics if you need help, just reach out to us! Treats and praise are a must when training this breed. We recommend all Irish Wolfhounds go into a basic training class starting at 4-5 months old. This will greatly help with socializing and basic commands. Irish Wolfhounds can be big scaredy cats as pups so socialization is essential to having an all around great adult Wolfhound.
Some people will tell you, "never let your Wolfhound off-leash." For some that may be true but that's where training differentiates some Wolfies from others! All of our Wolfhounds learn at an early age how to act off-leash. It IS possible but takes work. Always use caution if you have your Wolfhound off-leash as if your Wolfie sees a quick moving rabbit or even your human neighbor just checking their mail, your Wolfhound may take off.
The Irish Wolfhound is a smart breed and learns quickly. Training is fun and the Wolfies LOVE going to training at all ages of life! Training also helps you and your dog bond. Try it, you both will really enjoy it!
